The European settlers that came to the New World had to leave behind the way of life they knew, and in most cases the majority of their worldly goods. They did bring their traditions with them, which they quickly adapted to their new life.

One of the most beloved of those traditions for many of the immigrants was Christmas, and they quickly began creating music to aid in the celebration of this beloved feast.

"Star in the East," a hymn from the Sacred Harp, is the launching point for this festival of Christmas music from the New World, from 300 years ago to the present.
